Identify two or more themes in the novel.  In a well-organized essay, using textual evidence to support the claim, analyze the development of the themes throughout the novel.  Discuss how the themes connect, interact, and build on each other to produce a more complex account.

Identify a violent scene or scenes in the novel.  In a well-organized essay, using textual evidence to support the claim, explain how the violent scene or scenes are relevant to the advancement of the plot or the development of the theme.

Identify a character who made a sacrifice or surrendered something of value.  In a well-organized essay, using textual evidence to support the claim, analyze how the sacrifice reveals the development of the character.
