Koratzanis, Joy

Welcome to Basic Skills/Response to Intervention (BSI/RTI) at Russell O. Brackman Middle School. My name is Joy Koratzanis and I have been teaching Basic Skills ELA and ELA grades 6-12  for 23 years now!   I am pleased to provide small group instruction to your struggling learner.   This individual attention will attempt to provide the necessary remediation to improve any skill deficiencies.

How does Response to intervention work?

1. Tier 1 - your child’s teacher identifies an area of concern for your child.  Interventions are employed for 6 - 8 weeks to strengthen the skill.

2. TIER 2 - if after 6  - 8 weeks there is not sufficient  improvement a second level of support is offered.  Students will be provided with supplemental help via on-line computer programs.  The original interventions will continue.

3. TIER 3 - referral to an interventionist.  Students receive small group instruction to remediate their specific weaknesses.

If there is still a deficiency after climbing through these tiers your child will be referred to our Child Study Team.

I provide any supplies needed for your child.
Unless I need something signed, I do not require homework, but to improve your child's reading skills, they should be reading at least 20 minutes per night.

I am happy to be  working with the Brackman Team and delighted to be the Student Council Advisor and the Assistant Drama Advisor.
